Morrow

Morrow had its start in 1870 as a single acre of land. At that time, the community’s namesake, Radford Morrow, deeded the land to the city board of trustees. Back then, Morrow was little more than a railroad stop. Today, the city has developed into a thriving residential and retail community.

Morrow is anchored by several shopping centers and Clayton College and State University. The university primarily serves the south metro Atlanta region and has an enrollment in excess of 5,700. Accredited programs of study include associate and bachelor’s degree programs, nursing and dental hygiene. The campus is a peaceful 160 acres of wooded lands, complete with five lakes. Spivey Hall, located on campus, is one of the region’s recognized cultural destinations. Established in 1991, Spivey Hall is an “acoustically-superior” performing arts venue specializing in classical and jazz artists. The 400-seat facility is classically decorated with marble and gold leaf touches.

Morrow’s retail centers, particularly the Southlake Mall, attract shoppers from within and outside the city. Everyday accessories and gifts for special occasions can be found at the Hammock Center, Southlake Mall, Southlake Festival Shopping Center and Morrow Pavilion Shopping Center. The strength of Morrow’s retail activity provides residents a good measure of convenience plus economic and employment opportunities.

The climate in Morrow is characterized by cool winters, wet springs and mild summers. Average temperatures range from highs in the 80s to lows in the 30s. Annual rainfall is typically about 50 inches, with March and July being the wettest months.
